You only do that for things you want to prove you said and revealing the actual message later

So for checking if you did something it just needs a reminder as others have correctly stated

If this was something „secret“ or similar then hash -> post the hash -> set reminder, reveal if you want to reveal by posting message and hash algo used so we can verify that you did say that
