is that because of age, or some other status they’ve created they’re afraid to lose?

ive felt the opposite as i get older- more courage to live authentically and be myself

I do think a lot of it is a combination of age + responsibilities 

It’s also when we are young, we are filled with expectations of what is to come but eventually, a lot of people start settling into their perceived images and are afraid to break them
