one category of ideas I had that is not covered here is more around building friendships around a shared context (imo best part of farcaster).

scenario: let's say people get shoved into 5 person groups for 1 week, discussions happen or not, if you do nothing you get shuffled to a fresh group next week, but if you like the group you can vote (pay a small amount?) to keep it.

the idea is to optimize people landing in groups that they want to keep and come back to.

also would be interesting to see what norms form, whether people do intros or have canned topics or discuss news etc, something about knowing you're stuck with these people for a week so may as well make the most of it.

Something I don’t like about the groups thing is the obligatory intros that you need to do every round. Might be interesting if an LLM could summarise what you’ve said in prior chats to skip this part

I haven't seen anyone build stuff like this lately, feels like global feed social stuff is eating all the oxygen in the room.

I love this idea. I was recently going to a IRL philosophy club where you get mixed into groups of 4/5 people and you just talk about stuff on the agenda. In my case the topic of the day was "dreams" and we got a bunch of questions and ideas what to touch on in our conversations.

Since that session I thought this ought to be replicated somehow and your idea above kind of fits the bill. Also agree what you said about norms and intros etc. Sometimes its awesome just to right get into it and lose yourself in a stimulating conversation.

E.g. as soon as a stranger asks you what you are doing professionally they ran out of energy and the relationship falls apart in small talk until it dissolves again.

There is probably also an interesting token model where you maybe get some tokens for making the effort of joining new groups and maybe getting upvoted by your peers, and then you pay tokens once for retaining a room or circle.

I don't think it has to be that way, that's just a matter of norms. Some places are actively against traditional intros (eg. no talking about work).

Lots of space to experiment with bios or LLM intros if that's necessary but generally I'd lean on the side of letting mini cultures develop emergently, too.
