it's WAY harder than it should be to accept payments online

now imagine not even having access to stripe which is trusted by consumers worldwide

- this is the reality that african builders face when distributing products online

internet-native currency has been a long time coming and is frankly long overdue

nevermind how stripe and payment processors take a fee on every transaction just because it's so hard to do

perhaps the biggest problem is not being able to charge in local currencies (USD/EUR)

nobody knows what NGN or ZAR is

I’m not an expert but I assume it will. Infrastructure isn’t there yet  but at least crypto gives us a solid foundation

Do you think it’s stripe people trust or their CC company backing them on disputes?

 (I bet most consumers don’t even know what stripe is)

I wonder if internet-native payments will need this same consumer trust in dispute resolution to gain adoption.

circle mint is the product that most non crypto native merchants will use to access their USDC & EURC, mainly convenient for on/offramping

until trad banks offer their own versions of this, circle mint pretty much is a choke point unless vendors understand and have their own offramp options in place

do you think the way it's being implemented by circle addresses that difficulty though?

even coming from a US perspective, the number of hoops we're having to jump through for circle mint is imo worse than a trad bank...

So international customers would come to my site and see a price in ZAR and be like wtf is this

Not a trusted consumer brand, but as far as local payment providers go it’s not bad

Still way too much admin required when compared to crypto. Also fees

have deployed paystack and spotflow for payments in Nigeria and Kenya. Not difficult.

I've been in b2b crypto payments since 2018, getting the UX and technicals right to compete on Stripe's level is hard, they've got a great product! so many cheatcodes to making payments "just work" when dealing with existing US/Euro financial rails, easy to take easy flowing money for granted.

Solution:

Find real world ways to make transactions smoother between people so they can directly interact with one another, and not have to go through middle men (who take money) to get things done. 

Throw as many tokens as you want for people who already have more money to make even more money. If those tokens make it easier to interact with one another, cool.  If they don’t…

I saw that too and I got to thinking.

Mostly because I’m cash strapped and I’ve been seeing everyone going crazy with getting airdrops (which I’ve been happy for some)

then I’m thinking… a bunch of people on here are making money hand over fist, but the same issues that you see are still here.

You then also see “non crypto” influencers (I recall @realimanihilton , @dadoen , others) getting attacked by “crypto centric” people.  But we’re all here saying we want to bring a billion people on chain… 

Then I see people getting upset with crowdfunds or people with “less than” saying “im not here to pay your bills”.

And I’m like sooo.  We haven’t really fixed anything.. have we?

In the EU the now introduced Wero for this, mostly C2C payments via QR from any bank to any bank.

But they have B&C options to. I always pay online just with a QR code. 

(Stripe actually has this service as a payment option)
