Degen

We’re building this, the tipping Farcaster app will be the Degen app. GN, Degens. 

Also, all these tipping mini apps don’t make sense because they use boring USDC (yawn). We’ll fix that too, step by step. $DEGEN.

It’s not deleted, I said devs are building mini apps like they’re for the masses, when they should be using $DEGEN and building for Farcaster. I’m happy to promote and fund devs, but they’re stuck on USDC. If you’re not defaulting to $DEGEN, it’s odd, my door’s always open.

I don’t think it’s odd at all. The most attractive thing about $degen was that it was free to distribute and as a result everyone had some. I don’t think this is true anymore - or at least less true than with USDC

that’s what i’m saying though, people have $DEGEN. not sure where the idea comes from that they don’t. if apps default to $DEGEN, people will spend it. i’d be surprised if any app saw fewer txs after switching to it. we still drop 20M $DEGEN/month, that’s over $50K. feels like the wrong mindset. why wouldn’t you root for the currency that brought us here?

Apps will accept what people want to spend. People will spend what they have. People have USDC from leaderboard rewards - not degen, because it’s not common to tip degen anymore

Happy to give Degen to mini apps making little/no $$, promote them on Farcaster, and boost visibility. Most people already have Degen, it feels native. USDC doesn’t help creators, doesn’t grow the ecosystem. Degen is literally win-win.

Totally get that, neutral money probably makes sense if you’re targeting a mass audience, but let’s be real: Farcaster isn’t that right now. Why can’t we just band together and support each other directly? We fund devs, they build on DEGEN, DEGEN grows, Farcaster grows, Mini Apps grow. That kind of flywheel doesn’t exist with USDC, it just exits the system. With DEGEN, the value loops back in. Feels like we’re missing a huge opportunity if we ignore that.

It's also a brand thing. USDC is neutral money and a safe bet as the defacto Base stablecoin. Degen, for better or worse, is inseparable from its brand and would immediately associate a mini-apps brand with theirs if used for payments.
