I always wonder why in tech you never hear anything about God, but in sports it’s common to see athletes and coaches give glory to God. I think it’s due to a number of factors. Pro athletes and coaches are the cream of the crop and actually have to do hard things to keep their jobs. Also, the act of playing a sport involves surrendering control in most scenarios. Leaning on God becomes much more obvious to a coach or athlete. Tech bros and leaders control everything down to the 1s and 0s; they control centralized databases with everyone’s personal information; they create algorithms to control us. Because of this they think of themselves as God’s.

Our Father, who art a Jets fan, hallowed by thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done (us winning), on the field as it is in the playbook. Give us this day our daily field goals, and forgive us our personal fouls, as we forgive those who foul us. And lead us not into defeat, but deliver us many touchdowns. In the name of Rice, Brady, and Madden, amen.
