assume it mostly has to do with having channels / categories within telegram for easier coordination / organization but don't want to speak on their behalf

Yeah channels are the biggest reason, helps organize conversation based on threads

TG also feels pretty lightweight and snappy to me now

Its mostly permanent rooms, we have about 30 total channels but only like 10 have been used in the last week or so 

Ephemeral channels can get created and closed/archived in those instances
