Born in America But not a fan of it A country of imperials Countless bodies used as agents of evil We keep our freedom by suppressing others We keep our amenities by extracting others We keep our voices drowning the voiceless What is a free country when others aren’t free? What is America without its blood? Its sacrifice of its people? Its greed? We celebrate a nation crumbling in front of our eyes. Our rockets glow red in the middle east. Our bombs burst in the air of own cities. To what proof are we claiming? Our flag is aligned with those who terrorize the poor, the sick, families who aren’t the right hue or carry the same beliefs. This land ain’t free—you just think it is.

America's oldest values included the genocide of indigenous Americans, leveraging slavery for the enrichment of the wealthiest families, dehumanizing every single person who wasn't American. Our constitution had to be amended to remove the 3/5ths clause that treated black folk as property. It had to be amended to allow women to vote. It had to be amended to ensure that the "we the people" included all people. Original American values run parallel to what we are experiencing now. Just different faces.
