The challenge with channels is there’s no consensus on what they should be. 1. Distribution vs. niche interest 2. Open but tons of mod work vs. Closed but frustrating for new users A lot of this is a result of our iteration on the feature and not having anything work. A simpler version not dependent on the Farcaster app—but not emphasized by it, would most likely mean other app developers could solve for the various cases. And now with mini apps, you could imagine channel-specific clients as mini apps. https://farcaster.xyz/dwr.eth/0x19ce197c https://farcaster.xyz/dwr.eth/0xd7e9b71b

why not a bit of both, i don't think it is like that now. Channels can be huge for a few different reasons, such as connecting and community building but it needs a way to be found and be promoted. So the way it shows up in our feeds are really cool because that's how i learned about some channels. There needs to be a cleanup process set up that if it is inactive for 90 days it's automatically "archived" meaning it doesn't actively show up in feeds until there is sustainable usage. and maybe have another tab on our profiles that shows the channels we are a part of and what we have posted in those channels, so we can check them out? channels do need to be moderated and putting that in the hand of the channel owners then causes them to think about how serious they are about community building. I have spent many years doing community building, and that is the one thing i see. People see it's easy to start a community but to maintain it and keep it going is another task that requires a lot of work

so putting that on the channel creators will really make them think! This allows the channel creators to also have their rules of how people join. So back to the original I think you need both to give each channel the opportunity to grow and see traffic. Allow users to see the posts from channels from their friends that they follow, and then allow them to function as their own entity still in the eco-system of course.
