This evening I discovered a life hack for disposing of large, unwanted bugs. Fortunately, we do not have a bugs problem in my place, but I have had to dispose of 2 cockroaches in 3 years. I despise cockroaches. I might rather a mouse in the house.
Anyway, here’s the issue before i explain the hack. Everyone knows cockroaches are too big to smash. You make a mess. They are crunchy and have guts and stuff. This is part of why I can’t stand them. I cannot overstate how much i dislike roaches.
As an aside, more often than not people use the words “overstate” and “understate” to say the opposite of what they intend because it is usually preceded by “cannot” and they don’t think about the double negative. My usage there was correct.
Now let me get to the hack, and I’m not kidding, this is actually genius. But first I need to tell you my old approach. It requires a solo cup and a piece of paper, or a magazine or something flat like that which you are ok to throw away. You trap it with the cup against the floor, slide the paper underneath, and then carry the trap to somewhere where you can throw the whole package out.
This approach has served me well for years but it’s always a little risky. If you’re transferring with a magazine you need to get over the edge and things can get a little precarious. With a single sheet of paper you don’t have that problem but it can be flimsy and create a hole for the roach to exit. It usually ends up fine but it’s not a cake walk.
My new approach is foolproof. Starts the same way with the solo cup trap. Don’t fix it if it ain’t broke. But here’s the killer ingredient — tin foil. That’s right, good old fashioned aluminum foil. Much better than a sheet of paper or a magazine.
You slip the sheet of foil under the cup and then before you pick it up you can create a perfectly seal, around the rim of the cup, and then over the cup entirely. Do yourself a favor and rip yourself an ample piece of foil. You can skimp for covering leftovers. Don’t be frugal with a once annual cockroach trap.
So yea, anyway, that’s my trick. I encourage you try it and report back. I feel like I should make a tiktok of this or something. Maybe this is the catalyst to finally doxx myself. Idk. Anyway, pretty stoked about this discovery. Lmk what you think. Gn. 5 replies
