Artemisia Gentileschi – A Female Voice in the Heart of Darkness
Artemisia Gentileschi, a 17th-century Italian painter, was raped at the age of 18 by Agostino Tassi. In court, she was subjected to torture in order to prove the truth of her testimony. Despite this traumatic experience, she continued to paint, focusing her work on the strength and suffering of women.
