Gérard is a 38-year-old intellectual, reclusive, and pessimistic man who is fascinated by Nietzsche's philosophy and hates the bond between his sisters and other men. She tries to prevent her sisters from marrying with trickery and sometimes malice, because she cannot accept their separation and wants to keep one of them with her forever.
