Depression is a function of boredom, which in turn is a function of abundance and wealth. It exists, but I have never been feeling down/depressed when I didn't have the time to feel like it. Going to Uganda, Africa there is no depression. There is making moves to survive and emotions, but no perma state of depression

The average African doesn't believe in depression. Some years ago, ignorant me would have said it was a western problem. And yes, the default African mind is primed to think more about survival, which somehow keeps you going. But I think, depression is a function of many more things that varies per person.

> depression is a function of many more things that varies per person. what veries per person is what drives you. to me depression is a lack of drive and giving in to the loop of feeling sorry for oneself -> feeling more sorry -> can't do anything -> stuck drive in whatever way and survival is the easiest driver /1

/2 if one has a driver then you obviously have bad days and even down days, though you stand back up. Current 2024 western civilization doesn't have a surivival driver so you need other ones. Thats why "passion" is such a big concept here. It's mainly hiding the underlying humans need to feel useful -> the drive
