Here in Minneapolis, people are encouraged to replace lawns with native plants, butterfly and bee gardens, and native flowers. These manicured lawns in places like Las Vegas and Phoenix are insane.

in vegas it's a completely indefensible waste of water

in reno, theres no water shortage, our reservoirs are overfull and we have plenty of snow melt, our local river is at maximum flow almost every year, we don't depend on Colorado River at all

so lawns here are still really stupid but worth mentioning that it's not as dire as vegas/tucson (where they are wasting water they can't afford to spare)
