So apparently Japan changed their money over the summer and I almost lost it at the ATM and had to stand there googling it like an idiot to make sure I wasnāt crazy. Top is new. Iām loving the wave on the back. Canāt wait to get more change and see what the other notes look like in person. Japan used to be very cash heavy, covid helped accelerate touch-less credit cards but most small businesses and temples are still cash. Itās strange because IC cards (electronic transit cards) are useable at most vending machines so Iām always caught off guard when I canāt pay with it and thrilled when I can unexpectedly. Now that I can reload my card with Apple Pay I rarely go to the ATM.
