Controversial take here, but I do think TikTok/creator shops and patron subscriptions are better than the “have the internet gamble on my posts” model crypto is proposing right now.

Under this model, you can get paid for actual citizen journalism, you aren’t getting paid for outing the astronomer CEO unless people are deranged to buy merch about it.

I would be more excited about post coining if creator coins were tied to more utility (eg rev share).

I’m curious how “market cap as the algo” accounts for the super niche content that makes up good TikTok feeds

I like the new Farcaster app 1/1 post collection model better than the TBA fractionalize the post model.

It allows for friends and community members to collect low virality posts in a way that feels more meaningful that buying $5 of a coin you don’t want while allowing for massive upside for viral posts.

One of my biggest complaints with crypto is ignoring the value that communities naturally create for each other when you overly financialize it.

FWIW I am excited about the Merkle experiment in tokenizing posts. I think it balances the need for niche communities with capturing upside for viral breakouts.

I think adding a market cap to posts would overly financialize the niche content communities that make user generated feeds successfully right now.

i get this. agree patron subscriptions / shops make sense and are much better for people who want to be citizen journalists.

the content coin model is still very nascent and not at-scale yet, so hard for all of us to see it play out or work in situations like the viral astronomer video.

I also agree, making money from LP or knowing when to sell your tokens isn't exactly the monetization most people want to do. While I think coining has its place,.why reinvent the wheel?
