Never. I’m not sure who is older, but if me, Obama/McCain was divided. Nothing like the current state imo. Both Obama and McCain were gentlemen.

Social, fake news, populist politicians and misleading headlines fueled this. And it's like that almost in every country. Even in countries with multiple parties it all boils down to conservative vs liberals. France for instance both their right and left sides are very extremist near to the point they won't be able to even live in the same country. Same thing in my country (Colombia) it's like if we were enemies with insults even physical assaults time to time. The worst part is that centrists always have to choose between one extremist party giving them even more power.
