Just finished the first video of Andrej Karpathy’s “zero to hero” series… wow, he definitely has a well-deserved reputation for being an excellent educator. Highly recommend this series for anybody who wants to understand LLMs to the point of being able to build one 👌

how long did it take you to finish the series? any prerequisites?

I just started last night (I like to go hard on my Saturday nights 😎).

I found it very easy to follow, but I’m a huge nerd. If you have a basic sense of calculus and an intermediate understanding of any programming language you can probably follow along. Bonus if you have a vague understanding of neural networks. He literally goes from zero to a binary classifier in 2.5 hours well enough that I think I could build it myself now without minimal outside help.

thank you for this detailed response, I’m doing a self-guided crash course on machine learning right now. don’t have too much formal programming experience but not completely new either. think I’ll still go through some basics of building a model before starting this series

Can’t hurt. Eventually you’ll fill in the gaps!
