Seeing Mamdani making the rounds on FC, I thought I'd throw in my 2 cents. I typically don't dabble in politics; I've divorced myself from it long ago, and still feel like it's a net negative for our world. Still, Mamdani intrigues me. Dude isn't even running for president and yet everyone's treating him like some sort of messiah. In short, I feel very wary of Mamdani. I generally just don't trust politicians period. Tbf I would pick him over Trump, but I still feel conflicted. He's unabashedly a Marxist and quite far left, so obviously I don't feel comfortable with someone so extreme (then again, we live in an age of extremes so no getting around that). On the other hand, he played his cards well and managed to actually get on the ground and connect with voters, something that the establishment dems have repeatedly failed to do, so I admire that.

It's clear to me however that he's using the same populism tactics that helped Trump rise to power, and appeals to populism don't often end well, especially when playing off of peoples' emotions. I fully understand why he's caught everyone's attention tho. The pendulum is starting to swing the other way, and boy oh boy will it swing hard. I just don't think it's wise to keep putting so much trust and faith in one man to fix all of the country's problems, especially when they can never seem to fulfill their own promises. I also don't think that socialism is quite the silver bullet that young voters want to believe it to be. Granted, our current capitalist system is doing more harm than good and it's very clear we need another approach. I'm just not sure if Mamdani's brand of socialism is the right way to go.

I wish he was as far left as you've presented but he isn't. He has offered a lot of libertarian policies like deregulations in some cases. As @purp says, nothing he offered is considered surprisingly left or something in Nordic countries. It's just American sentiment and media representation of any politician who doesn't lick some billionaire boots.
