i have been thinking about organizational learning and came across this quote by W. Edwards Demings. i also finished Shogun for the first time last night, which also provokes some interesting questions about leadership. read Toranaga's quote apart from its anti-social context, "All men are like falcons. Some are flown straight from the fist, killing anything that moves. Others are lazy and tempted by the lure. But all men can be broken. Learn to fly them at the right game, and they will do your hunting for you." we know good leadership requires aligning incentives towards a common goal by tapping into the right individual motivations. companies that have people-positive policies adopt them because they can align employee empowerment in a way that's good for business. there is room for systemic innovation to occur by asking not how you get people to get you what you want, but what people want when they are empowered to live expansively.
