There exist tough edge cases here, but the most egregious crime is someone in the right lane following another merging car into the same zipper slot 🥴

Second worst zipper crime is tailgaters in the left lane refusing to make room in front of them.

Good points, maybe the equilibrium skews towards early merge because it’s the only way to be certain of not being an asshole.

or not having to ask for deference last minute because someone incorrectly thinks you cut the line

the zipper way was how i was taught. it took me years of being frustrated with regular merge people to find out there wasn’t actually an official “correct” way

Interesting, I only learned the zipper recently, but I do think it’s the objectively correct way because of course. 

This feels like something that could be changed with a small amount of public education.
