I told my dad about duolingo and told him to study mandarin, they rely on me mostly when we go to mandarin speaking places, so it would be useful for them when I’m not available.

My dad told me just now he’s on his 24th day streak, and just subscribed to duo premium. It’s working!

Has anyone ever learned a lot through Duolingo though? I feel that it's mostly outdated methods that have been proven less effective in language learning. It might be a good motivation, but beyond sentence structure and basic vocabulary it seems relatively ineffective.

True. That makes sense. I just wish they would embed words and phrases more naturally without the constant dopamine hits (I know that is what makes them successful).

I know a lot of people that started in duolingo and eventually learned a lot on the language. I believe that the best way to learn a a language is to experience it -- talking to locals, watching movies, but still think duolingo is a good place to start
