I was telling my Mom about a hackathon I’ve been invited to speak at — She immediately started telling a story about this phishing crew being busted 😂 We had a conversation about how to the outside world - the word “hackathon” gives negative connotations When I asked if “buildathon” was better - she asked “is that what they’re doing?” “Yea, they’re building apps and things :)” So long story short - Buildathon > Hackathon to the public 😂👌🏾

i think “hackathon” has a tongue-in-cheek nature about it, it sounds bad/edgy but it has a positive meaning
