I remember when I first realized this early on in my career it filled me with a sense of anxiety dread. I guess as a more junior employee it was reassuring to think that the situation was always under control no matter what. Like everything was a going according to the companies leaderships’ grand plan. When I realized that leadership having a loosely organized structure and a very fractured decision making process was the default setting at most of the large companies I’ve worked at it stressed me out. When leadership is shooting from the hip all the time it makes things feel more chaotic and out of control.
