what is tyler perry's obsession w depicting black women going through the absolute worst? granted i've only seen two movies; 'straw' and 'a fall from grace' so me calling it an obsession is probably not a fair characterization but both movies made me feel off. anyone else feel this way?

I havent seen the movies you mentioned but I sense what youre talking about. I am not sure, its not my type of film but given the popularity they do speak to people. this had me thinking about how popular it is as a genre for men to cross dress in film, some even family friendly * mrs doubtfire * the birdcage * white chicks * Madea films * rocky horror picture * tootsie

haven't seen a few out of the list you mentioned but yes you have a point. i think they were a bit of a trend(?), if you can call it that, a while back. don't see much of that anymore. probably because cross dressing was supposed to be this comedy sub genre which probably in some way tied into transphobia etc

I havent seen tootsie but its on my watchlist for Dylan Hoffman (watched the graduate first) youre probably right but id also argue the quality and creativity of films is really poor right now. very little creative risk taking. not saying no good films come out, they do, just generally the cost to make a new film has taken a creative hit against inde. were way off the topic you were seeking though!
