sorry but when has america ever changed how they do things cuz others do it differently. that's like one of the defining characteristics of who we are for better or worse.

I mean lol we didn't change it because its hard af to change the constitution, it was added to the constitution because we litterally bought and sold people and then those people got free and became citizens

It’s also an old world / new world distinction that makes sense from a collanizer perspective.  Conquest was a lot easier with ownership.
