I’m of two minds about the increased access to private space research. I think more research is better. But as will all the satellites (which are about capitalism, not research), who is going to clean up the junk left behind. We’re going to have a bunch of rovers on the moon https://phys.org/news/2025-05-private-japanese-lunar-lander-orbit.html

This "junk" could be thrown into Moon and used as valuable materials there. Hopefully we will get to the point when humanity will be able to conduct such missions

we only have to look to what we have done on Earth to realize that we will do the same wherever we go. Which is unfortunate or even worst, because deeply we all know that we can do better but as humanity we prefer to look on the other direction. We only have to look in our homes about how many devices that we bought are useless now because the company stopped working on them (hello Google and my Nest device). The problem with space junk is that if we keep the ratio we might not even be able to exit earth due to all the possible collisions.

It’s a hard one to solve because who has the right to police it. Private research also worries me, maybe I’m cynical but people investing the kinds of money needed to do it will be looking for a return
