Why isn't Farcaster actually going after users who are silenced on social media? @dwr @v These users are NOT glamorous, typically societal vices, and you're wading into geopolitics. But if the goal of FC is to build a sufficiently decentralized network, why isn't there a concerted effort to reach those who need this most? Folks and similar apps they use: - Banned from trad social media apps (conspiracy theorists on official topics like healthcare, those advocating for hate/violence, etc - dark corners of reddit, 4chan, youtube) - Deboosted on trad social media apps (Rumble, Truth Social) - NSFW (Onlyfans) - Gambling (Kick) - Users in sanctioned countries (Iran, Syria, etc) or countries without freedom of speech; though this is more a 3rd party dev initiative, since the FC app likely can't take these users on IMO going after crypto traders is a crowded market, and every trading app is building a feed/commenting xp (see Clicker, Share, FOMO, etc)

i reach out to users esp builders i see deboosted on twitter/x but don't think this should be the ultimate strategy, not enough to sustain growth and starts also becoming a pretty fragmented user group focused more on going after crypto community right now. especially since starting with the social graph first and then trading (vs other way around) is a genuine edge imo

agreed that 1 by 1 isn't a strategy, but i wonder if going for an edgier audience (non-devs, some group that society doesn't like) can be a 10x strategy for farcaster is the thesis about building a sufficiently decentralized network, or just building with the biggest network of socials + wallets? i wonder if the latter has a terminal state (crypto traders), esp if you're trying to be the next big social media network. sooner or later, you need to reach non-crypto users. so why not go for the thesis directly rather than take the long way around?

there are multiple decentralized networks (e.g. bluesky) so you're still pitching against those and it's always an uphill battle. there are a smaller amount of crypto native decentralized networks and i believe farcaster is the strongest one so it's a more straightforward pitch, plus where my own network and a lot of the team's network is
