I invited two normie friends and this is the reason why they are basically nonexistent here. 

One thing Farcaster lacks is exposure to the things that bring normal people to social media. Yes, those that have been here have it set up but anyone new has a tough time getting noticed.

one of the biggest challenges here is navigating the tension between FC content being too crypto centric for normies yet too normie for CT. put another way, to niche down or not to niche down? that is the question.

re: the former point of tension, I think there’s an interesting struggle in that much of what is unique about this place on the internet—namely a general sense of curiosity, discussions about bleeding edge tech, forward-thinking optimism about the future—are not values shared by many casual IG or TT users. in fact, they might even be alienated by this and perceive it as right-coded (which is superficial, of course).

it’s unclear to me how to resolve that. BS has proven that people like to be surrounded by people that agree with them and don’t challenge their ideas. so a network with diverse opinions might actually be, in a perverse way, at odds with short or medium term growth. long term this heterogeneity is clearly a good thing, though.

I feel like we need to lean a bit more niche here to get more random content. 

For instance, sometimes I just want to cast about how a song makes me feel but I can’t cast in the music channel and know it won’t be noticed otherwise so I stop myself because of that. 

The random content doesn’t matter here as much as it does elsewhere because there’s no interaction.

For me personally, I look at the crypto I don’t care about like spam on other SM but spam that makes sense to exist. 

All of these things make this a tough sell for the average SM user IMO.
