The holiday weekend is winding down but wouldn’t be complete without Chiavetta’s. Smokey, Vinegary, Garlicy umami bomb marinade that’s a WNY staple. What other must have BBQ staples are there that might not be known outside of their region?

Most people refer to anything that’s not NYC as Upstate but to us on this side of the state there’s a big difference.

Buffalo, Rochester and Niagara Falls are the 3 main cities in the area so there’s plenty we’re known for. Rochester is the birthplace and home of Eastman Kodak, Niagara Falls holds the unofficial 8th Wonder of the World title, Buffalo is responsible for the modern chicken wing just to name a few. William McKinley was assassinated here and Teddy Roosevelt sworn in as president as a little fun fact.

I once beat a man from Buffalo in a wing eating contest while staying in Vegas. Good times. I guess I didn't realize that those things were all "West" new York. Like you mentioned, everyone basically calls everything upstate. I'm going to have to come visit that area to see some shit for sure. 👍👍 Thanks for the info! 🙏
