Dumb question: what incentives exist for validators to process blocks on test networks like Goerli and Sepolia?

Can't you sell testnet ETH, though? https://testnetbridge.com/

Testing the network and their infra You don’t need super strong incentives to keep a p2p network running smoothly. BitTorrent is a great example.

There are little to no incentives for the general public to process blocks on testnets. Those networks are provided mostly for free by the EF and the broader Ethereum community for testing. It's a public good.

Imagine you want to start staking on mainnet and want to practise handling your node, keeping your system up to date and the general setup. So you use a testnet first.
