More important than airdrops, and there's been some great ones on Base already, are blue chips/network tokens that folks have to actually buy (preferably cheap in a bear) and can rally behind, that have deep liquidity, that people feel comfortable holding for longer than a day and that whales can enter with size. The two biggest of these in the Coinbase world are $coin and $crcl, neither of which are cryptos yet and so mostly that wealth is silo'd in stock land. By the time they are tokenized, the wealth creation event, as far is crypto traders are concerned will probably have come and gone. Obviously a $base token released in the bear could have been this but that's not gonna happen anytime soon or ever. $zora has a chance to be something like this but has a long way to go, plus liquidity isn't great, maybe the cabal can fix, dunno.

to make an ecosystem into a cult, it needs a group of early participants to make generational gains $HYPE did a good job of this

hype did great and they had the advantage of not having to feed a dozen VCs before users. It's tougher with something like Base because it's way bigger than Hype. Everyone would get like a 20 dollar airdrop at this point and it wouldn't matter. Would've been preferable to buy $base in the deep bear at say, 5b and ride it to 125.
