Caption positioning: Notice how similar all of these examples are. The captions are high enough to avoid getting covered by the description text in playback, but rarely higher than center. YouTube shorts of big accounts are a great place to observe short form video editing. They’ve learned a lot by trial and error.

When I used to edit short form videos, I used to make the mistake of placing the subtitle so low that on Tiktok, it would backfire. The app's festures would end up covering the subtitle. Thank you for sharing! I'll be studying more big accounts for short form video editing.

as an exception, I could imagine landscape-only videos without people - in that case, captions and text overlays could work when placed at the top

It's all fun and games until you click one or two thirst trap clickbait shorts and next thing you know you can't open the app in front of your kids I now consciously click Shane Gillis shorts to stop my YT feed from looking like a soft-core porn site

Imo that’s like the only thing I love about the capcut auto-generate is they FINALLY just put the darn captions high enough and at the right width automatically to not be cut off by tiktok and youtube. So I don’t have to make any changes and do all this guess work like I did before
