Who remembers PostSecret?

This community art project was created in 2005. People were invited to anonymously mail in their secrets on a postcard. Readers saw themselves reflected in strangers’ confessions. These handwritten admissions countered the polished and performative sharing beginning to form on social media at the time.

That is so cool. Was too young for that sadly.

Was there an equivalent confessional space that was iconic for you when you were young? I've been wondering what the next generation of PostSecret was / will be.

Perhaps it’s cultural but I doubt it’s that pervasive or representative of an entire culture. Some things like shame and privacy etc is pretty universal I think.

My experience with Croatian friends is they are refreshingly straightforward and don't have a need to create confessional postcard websites. 😂  They just say what they need to say.

I remember the earliest version of it being something like message in a bottle but it was on the early days of the internet. Nothing physical I could remember. Probably not popular in my country anyway.
