What does based mean to you?

My first encounter was a decade or two back over the meme, “based [god]” from a lot of video game discourse. I used it lightly with little meaning more than any “lol” or “neat” reply.

Then Base and my indie dev era came. 

Now I used it a lot. I even pair it with precursors like “absolutely [based]”.

The meaning hasn’t change but its value among my vocabulary mooned. 

It was always a way to say “what a great standard to set.” Now it’s become more indicative of my appreciation than the thumbs up emoji. Of which I now use 2 for similar effect. 

So I guess based went from “slang” to “replaces two-thumbs-up meaningfully.”
