Adult Children of Emotionally Immature Parents is hauntingly spot on. I remember, at 18 and kicked out, thinking to myself that life would be harder for me due to my trauma and upbringing but I wanted to try my best at life and not let it define me. It’s so frustrating realizing that it did shape me very much into who I am, reading exact descriptions of myself in these kinds of books. However being aware of this helps me give myself grace and continue to grow and be a better person in spite of it. https://bookshop.org/p/books/adult-children-of-emotionally-immature-parents-lib-e-how-to-heal-from-distant-rejecting-or-self-involved-parents-lindsay-c-gibson/16712089?ean=9781626251700&next=t

My family had dinner with my dad last year and randomly in the conversation he dropped "yeah sorry I wasn't always the best parent, I think I was sociopathic and a narcissist." Like oh okay glad you got that therapy now at least lol

But despite doing our best to not be like our parents and be there for our kids, our teenager said that living with us is like living with two people who don't understand emotions. Brutal. You just can't fix everything in one generation I guess.

Haha wow but at least he finally got there I guess. I don’t think my parents will ever apologize even on their death beds 😅
