Making “anti-AI” a core part of the new progressive / left identity is a massive mistake. But there it is.

Is this guy important in some regard? I guess he must be somewhat since you’re using him as an example of the left and his PFP is him sitting on a panel or something But all that to say, even if the old fart liberals think “AI is bad,” doesn’t mean that’s actually a part of “the new progressive / left identity” Seems more likely young and or smart progressives / leftists embrace AI as a means to UBI and better (and shorter) working conditions

To some extent yeah I agree but have also seen a lot of straight up anti AI stuff from the left, both for environmental reasons that I think are legitimate concerns and also got AI safety reasons which is also legitimate. I'm not anti AI but I acknowledge that there's a non zero chance it kills us all in the next few decades.

all fair points. I'm not particularly concerned about AI killing all or large swaths of humans in the next 100 years but I will concede it is a non-zero chance and I could very well be underestimating it and/or undereducated on how that might happen I'm not even particularly worried about AI directly harming humans, though psychological consequences will be hard to measure, at least at first, so I'm considering that to be indirect
