My 10 y.o. laptop finally broke down, and it's not fixable. What I realised is that I don't really care about the new laptop (will probably just get something lightweight for under $1k), but I care a lot about properly storing my files (mainly photos). I'm paranoid about hard drives breaking down (happened to me multiple times), and I'm also not very disciplined with back up. ChatGPT told me about NAS and RAID stuff and seems like that is a perfect solution, although not quite affordable - cheapest Synology setup is ~$600. But maybe there's some other option I'm missing?

I can only support the relevance of this topic. Especially since there is also a problem with backups 🙄

Do you have any experience with the NAS systems? Would appreciate feedback!
