The taxes over here in Canada are astronomical. They take at least a third of your paycheque.

Well, the ones in France are worst. The visible part they take is low. But in reality, we hide it with the name "charge patronale" (like employer cost). So if you receive€2000, the total cost for the employer is€3299. That means € 2k for you and € 1.3k for the gov. Then you will be taxed€75. Plus, GST is 20% almost everywhere. Oh, and last thing, tax returns don't exist. It's only in one direction: you to the gov. And most services from the gov are totally broken. So I think Canada is not so bad!

Thanks for another perspective. I moved from the UK and it is also bad.
