However, conversations relating to these topics often have one or both parties coming in with their "big t" Truth and often unwilling to yield any ground towards common understanding.

When we engage in a dialectic, it is with the intention of learning about the other's side and perhaps developing an understanding of one's "little t" truth and perhaps gaining a glimmer of the "big t" Truth.

I’ve found outside the states that we are able to have these type of conversations much more easily.  Curious if this applies more to American/Western discourse or if the aversion is spreading.
