as an outsider who has never written a line of rust, I never understood what makes "<some generic product category> but in Rust" so enticing on hacker news that it always lands on the front page.

It's probably just the myth that everything written in Rust is fast and "efficient". 
I've spent the past month trying to make sense of it(Rust) myself, and I just give props to anyone who builds decent stuff using it.
