i think farcaster should build a more substantial events feature into the app, perhaps as a mini app. 

everyone at ethcc should be using farcaster to find what’s going on and who is at what event. partiful meets snap maps. 

solid value prop ct can grok. a reason to keep the app installed. every ethereum (crypto?) event spurs app opens.

hosts post events on fc because they get better distribution here, and they still get to curate who makes it off the waitlist. 

attendees sign up to publicly attend events on fc because it creates more serendipitous networking opportunities and they get clout for having attended cool events. 

put all the public data on farcaster so people can airdrop or establish eligibility criteria for future events based on past attendance  

let people attend privately to resolve safety concerns.

I think Merkle should focus on building the best credibly neutral decentralised social network (+ a flagship client) and let other builders with great app ideas take advantage of their distribution. splitting focus to build complimentary offerings seems like a poor use of runway at this stage

Introducing Mesh Mini: Host + Attend Events Right Inside Farcaster

One of the best things about Farcaster is the people. The community here has grown thoughtfully, expanded organically, and continues to evolve in interesting directions.

At some point in every online community’s lifespan, usually a lot earlier than many might think, the same itch shows up: “I kind of like these people more than my real friends… time to meet internet strangers in person!”

It’s a pattern as old as the internet. Forum meetups. Dinners organized in Twitter DMs. For a very long while, Facebook Events was the best part of Facebook. The most valuable networks naturally trend towards creating a feedback loop between online and offline socialization.

So today, we’re launching Mesh Mini, a mini-app for hosting and RSVPing to events directly inside of Farcaster.

Mesh Mini is the simplest way to get people together onchain. Coffee hangs, happy hours, dinner parties, weekend vibecoding sessions, and whatever else makes you excited enough to get up and go outside for.

A few things to know:

- Mesh Mini runs on top of Gatekeeper, a protocol we’re building at @sceneinfra to bring the entire experience economy onchain.
- For now, Mesh Mini supports free/RSVP events and runs on Sepolia while we test and refine some things.
- If there’s interest, we’ll probably end up porting over the paid ticketing features from Mesh into Mesh Mini eventually.

Why shrink Mesh down into a mini-app? Gatekeeper is designed to support tons of unique front-end experiences. There should be thousands of clients, all running off Gatekeeper, powering a wide range of social experiences that are perfectly catered to their intended audience without needing to rebuild the fundamentals of events management and ticketing from scratch.

If things go well, we’re thinking of open-sourcing Mesh Mini and letting the community help us push it forward. Maybe you want a feature that only allows mutuals to RSVP? Or, you want to allow people to buy a token to skip the RSVP approval queue?

For now, have at it and have fun. Host something weird. Invite your Farcaster friends. Make new ones.

i see your point about merkle building it, engagement is key. but i wonder if there's a way to make it more self-sustainable while still offering value to attendees. the waitlist curation is a smart move too, might help maintain quality.
