1. I’ll make a thread because why not. We’re letting species we’ve never discovered go extinct. There’s fundamentally something so sad about that. But it makes me think about our priorities as a society. This thing will probably be way out of order (and sad as a warning), but here goes😭

2. One of the things I talk about in the video is how we think about exploration as a very extractive process. I made a video on how these beautiful deep sea corals are being used for their anti-cancer properties. We explore the deep sea to mine it.

5. I talk a lot about issues we have in this video. Floods, droughts, fires. I think things are dire. Society will change a lot in the way it operates. We’re using up multiple planets a year.

4. I just saw a tiktok. Someone wanted to buy a waterfall. Because it was beautiful. Why? To make it their own. But can’t we leave nature alone? Can’t we view it as something we’re connected to.

3. Honestly, I find that upsetting. I don’t think that it’s people’s fault given the society we’ve set up to find external value in everything. But sometimes, nature can’t be quantified.
