why cant they stick a reserve driver into replace stroll is beyond me completely understand you cant stick a reserve in the quali position but surely you can stick the reserve in p20 from the start

They can swap anytime before the start of the qualifying session. Once that has started, no driver changes are allowed. They should have not let Lance do quali. The problems he has did not occur out of the blue. They should have let Drugovich drive.

understand they shouldn't have let stroll qualify but if a driver falls ill on the saturday night, for example, the team shouldn't be penalised for that entirely when they have reserves ready to go aston should have done things differently, but I dont like the rule in general

Okay. Noted. I'm not saying the rule is good, but it probably wouldn't be good if it wasn't there, too. A driver not performing well in quali being swapped for a reserve driver for example to see what can be recovered during the race. So many scenarios imaginable. To me, the point is that the rule is there for everybody, and I think it has been there for a while. So a team should take that into account. They know every little detail of all the rules, and always try to bend it in their favour. So, this is a missed opportunity.
