Really dont like it, for reasons:

It impedes community growth and will drive away new users. Most people will not come back a second time if their day-one vibe is that everything is a gated community they're not allowed into. What is going to keep them coming back if not welcoming communities?

It will drive away current users who can no longer participate in communities they enjoyed. How are we expecting them to stick around after being kicked out of their fav groups?

Having to vet every member is an insane amount of responsibility and work for a big channel that wants to be mostly open. Even with a full team of mods, it'll take a lot of work to make it feel open again.

I love that talented artists show up and use /cryptoart on their first day. I love discovering them via the recent feed. How am I supposed to discover talented new users going forward?

This is going to hurt WC/FC adoption and retention of qDAUs.

Upcoming channel changes

We're *previewing* some upcoming changes so people 1) can understand and 2) provide feedback.

These changes are not launching yet. It will be a couple weeks. There will also be a bunch of communication to channel owners.

Sounds like it'll be customizable to the point that it won't end up preventing people from participating in their favorite open communities. We'll see how it plays out

FWIW I don’t think you’re wrong. I would like to see a debate between someone who thinks it’s a good idea and someone who doesn’t. Let’s see all the angles. Fundamentally, though, some people favour inclusion and some people don’t.

Yeah second this. Maybe it would be a good idea to add something similar to hashtags to at least make nonchannel casts more visible and then treat channels more like subreddits or Discord groups which are more high functioning/feature rich.

Up to this point, channels have been little more than glorified hashtags, and they need more utility to stay relevant. With that said, it'd be good to have a low key way for non channlers to still find each other and for mods to find potential members.

The automation will work just as poorly as identifying bots through likes on posts. I’m sure this frustrates you as well, considering you have nearly 59,000 followers but only see 5, 10, or 15 likes on your posts. We both know that this system isn’t functioning properly. The same issues will arise with the automation of adding users to groups. Warpcast creates this to reduce costs on purchasing and upgrading new servers in data centers, not to improve or simplify the user experience in Warpcast.
