Turns out Chamath’s argument a couple weeks ago that 80% of GDP growth was due to govt spending was totally wrong. These guys should get a fact checker. https://open.substack.com/pub/passingtime/p/learning-not-to-trust-the-all-in?utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=web

Yeah, “Come for the tool, stay for the network” only works to grow a network when you have a tool that is new or 10x better. This seems like the biggest reason why onchain versions of existing web2 apps will have trouble crossing the chasm. Token incentives less effective than new tools for bootstrapping a network because users and speculators get conflated, whereas using a new tool is pure utility

The narrative is that this was the "podcast election", where voter sentiment was driven by decentralized media publishers with no censorship from legacy media. No potential for censorship is good, but the trade-off was there was no rigorous fact checking or journalistic standards. My mental model is that we are at step two of a three step progression: 1) centralized news publishing, with journalistic rigor but no censorship resistance (thesis) -> 2) decentralized news publishing, with censorship resistance but no journalistic rigor (antithesis) -> 3) web3-enabled decentralized news publishing, with censorship resistance AND journalistic rigor using blockchain-enabled reputation scores and more community notes-like fact-checking systems (synthesis)
