The narrative is that this was the "podcast election", where voter sentiment was driven by decentralized media publishers with no censorship from legacy media. No potential for censorship is good, but the trade-off was there was no rigorous fact checking or journalistic standards. My mental model is that we are at step two of a three step progression: 1) centralized news publishing, with journalistic rigor but no censorship resistance (thesis) -> 2) decentralized news publishing, with censorship resistance but no journalistic rigor (antithesis) -> 3) web3-enabled decentralized news publishing, with censorship resistance AND journalistic rigor using blockchain-enabled reputation scores and more community notes-like fact-checking systems (synthesis)
