This doesn't smell right. The storage of text documents should be the most efficient because the data footprint of text files is basically binary already. If the image is RGB codes, then those are IEEE floating points across a matrix. I'm not exactly saying this might not be faster in retrieval, but I am saying I'd like to see data on what exactly is the criteria on efficiency. Maybe you're gaining storage space in video codec compression, but it doesn't seem like this should work without loss purely on information theory. The tradeoff for the efficiency *has* to be probabilistic retrieval.
