I haven't really played poker since a major person who taught me passed away over a decade ago. I'm just not that into gambling, but I played in a tournament today for some pretty low stakes and it was a blast. I forgot just how fun poker is in general at practicing decision making under stress and uncertainty. It's something I feel is a skill that's useful in family, friends, and business, and there is almost no context where you can practice this outside of gaming. Poker is probably one of the cleanest places to practice this. The key point is to translate this skill and not make it your day job just to game.

Do you feel that your stats training gives you an edge in the game?

No. Most of the probabilities are well known in the game and people just know the outcomes. Its understanding other players ranges that's pretty key in modern poker.
