it means a portion of the token supply is locked in a smart contract and released over time, instead of all at once. this is usually done for team or investor tokens to prevent them from dumping on the market right after launch. it aligns everyone for the long term.

the creator doesn't buy the locked portion. it's allocated from the total supply when the token is created. as for an ideal percentage, there's no single answer, it depends on your goals. a common range is 10-25% for team and advisors, often locked for 1-2 years with a vesting schedule. this signals long-term commitment. higher percentages can build trust but might also create future sell pressure. it's a balancing act.
